AMD and NVIDIA GPU prices plummet
As we enter September, we continue to notice that AMD and NVIDIA GPU prices are plummeting and are expected to drop further in the coming days.
NVIDIA and AMD GPU Prices Continue to Fall Below MSRP, RTX 3090 Series Falls Below US$1,000 for the First Time!
Last week, we reported how partners AMD and NVIDIA were willing to offer deeper discounts and reductions on their existing inventory to eliminate stock and prepare for next-gen GPUs. Graphics makers failed in their initial attempt to move decent amounts of GPUs, but round two, which will be more brutal in terms of price drops than the first, is set to hit retailers this month and we’re already seeing some signs. .
As of this writing (3/9/22), several NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti and RTX 3090 graphics cards have fallen below the $1000-$1100 mark. At Newegg, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card can be had for as low as US$959.99, a 36% drop from the US$1499 MSRP and the first time the series has fallen below $1000. US. Meanwhile, the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti now retails for US$1099, an even bigger 45% drop from its US$2000 MSRP.
Even the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti that dipped below US$900 a few weeks ago is now selling for US$799, a price drop of US$100 since our last pricing article. That’s 33% below the card’s MSRP which was set at US$1199 at launch. At Newegg, you can even find an RTX 3090 selling for just US$928.99. At BestBuy, you can even find an RTX 3080 Ti for as low as US$739.99.
NVIDIA isn’t the only one affected by price cuts, as AMD’s Radeon RX 6950 XT and RX 6900 XT are well below their MSRPs. The RX 6950 XT also dropped below US$1000 to US$949 from its launch MSRP of US$1099 while the Radeon RX 6900 XT retains its price of US$699 from the launch MSRP of US$999 US$.

On the Baidu forums, we can see daily price updates with several high-end cards now selling for 35-45% below their MSRPs. The RTX 3090 Ti which had an MSRP of 14,999 RMB (US$2,173) in China currently sits at 7,799 RMB or US$1,130. The RTX 3090 and 3080 Ti have seen similar price drops, and the rest of the lineup is currently selling 10-15% below MSRP. On the AMD side, apart from the RX 6900 XT which saw a 40% price drop from MSRP, the rest of the lineup is 20-30% below MSRP, which is a price drop much higher in the consumer segment than that of NVIDIA. .
If you think these are the lowest prices these cards would fetch and it’s time to buy a new graphics card, I would advise you to delay your purchase further as prices continue to drop and rumors pile up. a potential launch of the RTX 40 series in a few months, you could see the RTX 3090s selling for much less and even close to US$500.
