Big tips for the short man – The Free Weekly

Q. I am only 5 feet 5 inches tall. I know there are shoes I can buy called “elevator shoes”, but I don’t know much about them and I’m not sure I like how they would look. Please let me know what clothes I should choose that will make me look taller.

A. You don’t have to worry about the appearance of elevator shoes. They are no different from standard shoes, as an important part of their construction is to ensure that lifting devices are “hidden”. Thick sections of the insoles (known as shoe risers) are built into the heels to make the wearer appear taller, to “elevate” them. The part that increases its height is completely hidden inside the shoe.

When I searched online for famous and attractive men who are short, I was amazed at the impressive list of names in everything from movies to business and politics. There’s certainly no reason to be uncomfortable being one of them. Nevertheless, you can look for clothes that suit you perfectly, that correspond to your own perception of your body. This may not coincide with the world view – you may indeed be the only one in town who thinks you are dangerously short or it is a terrible deviation. But, since you believe in it, and since it bothers you and you wish to look taller, here are some guidelines on how to dress, in addition to height-enhancing shoes, which will optically increase your height.

Short men should, where possible, use vertical lines and details to draw people’s eyes upwards, giving the illusion of greater height. And, of course, avoid lines and horizontal patterns.

Features to look for:

  • Natural shoulder, single-breasted jackets and blazers with center slits
  • Monochromatic color combinations give the illusion of a few extra centimeters.
  • Jackets and pants should be of similar tones. With gray pants and a navy blazer, the pants should be dark gray, avoiding a strong contrast between the two. A light/dark contrast between the top and bottom will seem to cut you in half, making you look smaller.
  • Choose straight pants that are not too short; wear them with a slight pause.

Fabrics to select:

  • Light or medium weight
  • Dark colors will make you look taller; they lose weight too
  • Designs should be small to medium sized, never large or oversized.
  • Pinstripes and chalk striped suits have always been recommended for this purpose, but currently they are a bit too formal and not as “fashionable” as they used to be.

Other clothes:

  • Belts should have the same tone as the pants; avoid excessive contrast.
  • Sweaters work well for casual wear; they cover the horizontal line of a belt or belt.
  • Wear suspenders (braces) if you feel comfortable wearing them.
  • Choose buttoned shirt collars or narrow collars.
  • Wear tucked-in shirts for a clean look.
  • Choose long, narrow ties; no bow ties. Bold and bright ties accentuate your face.
  • Wear boots. The heel is expected. Make sure your clothes fit snugly and fit well. And, as your mother probably told you, watch your posture. Standing tall makes a man look taller.
