Byron resident gets free two-year lease on new car

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – United Way and Rochester Motor Cars have teamed up to give one lucky person a free two-year lease on a new car.

This is part of United Way’s first Give United Drawing.

“We launched the 2021 Give United Drawing as a way to create an additional reason and incentive for individuals to give in our community,” said Olmsted County United Way Chairman Jermone Ferson.

Byron winner Jamie Urch has been driving her current vehicle since 2010.

“I currently have a Sienna minivan that has over 200,000 miles, and we were just talking about needing a change,” Urch said.

When Urch opened the email saying she had won a lease on a car, she was in shock. She didn’t even think the email was real.

“Once we realized I got an email at home, an email at work, and then my nurse manager called to tell me I had to call United Way,” Urch said.

There were two ways to enter the competition. Individuals could either make a monetary donation or submit a 100-word essay explaining why living in Olmsted County is the best place to live.

“Most of the entries have been received through donations to United Way, which is great because it helps our community grow stronger,” Ferson said.

Urch donates to United Way every year, so she didn’t even know she entered the contest until she found out she had won.

“I was also a United Way defender in my unit, so I’m definitely going to promote them even more now,” Urch said.

Urch says having the new car will help him stay in touch with his family who live outside the area.

“My son, my daughter-in-law and my grandchildren are in town so I go back and forth a lot. My daughter is in Saint-Louis. I’m driving to see her, so it’s going to be pretty amazing to have a new vehicle,” Urch said.

United Way members say being able to give back in this way makes their work even more special.

“It’s just bringing it all together, and it’s always a beautiful thing to see, so in my position I can see it not just in this case, but in many other cases where the community comes together to help individuals. reach their potential,” Ferson said.
