LaFayette Company Hosts Free Massage Event and Cash Giveaway – Valley Times-News

LAFAYETTE — Gimme Some Sugar, a boutique and cafe in LaFayette, hosted a Sip and Relax event on Friday that included free massages from students in Southern Union State Community College’s massage therapy program as well as a $100 cash giveaway for anyone who has made a purchase.

Jennifer Graves opened Gimme Some Sugar in November 2020 with her husband, Justin. Initially, the business served as a shop only, but Graves realized that there would be slower months, especially during the school year. As such, they decided to incorporate a cafe into their business in April this year.

“While we originally only had the store, we found that there were slower times where we didn’t have a lot of customers,” Grave said. “Because of that, we incorporated the coffee in April, and it’s worked really well so far.”

Graves noted that she hopes the Sip and Relax event will attract more customers and raise awareness about the business in the Chambers County community.

“We really want to spread the word and let the whole county know we’re here,” Graves said. “Not only do we want to help people with their accessories, but we also want to serve them great coffee.”

Carrie Wood, executive director of the Greater Valley Region Chamber of Commerce, helped organize the event and bring Southern Union students to LaFayette.

“Our biggest goal is to try to help small businesses grow,” Wood said. “I thought by having a massage event here it would attract teachers and students looking to buy outfits and give them a chance to relax before the school year starts.”

Wood also noted that while the giveaway was open to the public, there was a chance it could help teachers furnish their classrooms.

“Anyone can win the prize, but if a teacher wins, it can help them put money back into the classroom,” Wood said.

Additionally, while Graves won’t go into specifics at this time, she did note that there are exciting things in the works regarding the future of Gimme Some Sugar.

“I don’t want to give away too much information, but the cafe is doing well and we plan to do some big things soon,” she said.

Starting Wednesday, Gimme Some Sugar will change its hours to better accommodate the school year. It will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. CST Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. CST on Saturday.
