Make a free art offer at the Turn The Tide exhibition in Stevenage
Former Digswell Arts Trust board member and acclaimed sculptor Hugh Tessier features works in a new exhibition.
The ‘INSIDE/OUTSIDE’ exhibition celebrates the new artistic direction of local charity Turn The Tide and features a selection of Hugh’s latest works, including sculptures and lighting.
Hugh features sculptures alongside works by local artists Maria Fekete (mural and drawing), Max (miniature sculpture), John O’Mahoney (sculpture) and Stella Ray Moody (collage).
Hugh said of the show, “Come and see all kinds of curious objects made from found materials created for your enjoyment to adorn your garden or nest by your couch.”
The show – at Turn The Tide’s Stevenage Workshop – invites visitors to bid on Hugh’s carvings and take them home for a small donation to charity.
Pieces that receive more than one bid will be raffled off to determine the lucky winner.
Turn The Tide Arts is a UK registered charity which provides free art opportunities to residents of Stevenage and surrounding areas.
The charity’s work explores how anyone can create imaginative art from materials in and around their home.
By working on discarded, found, or special memories from the past, we can all enjoy creating and creating.
Former Stevenage Mayor Hugh said: ‘The arts have a vital role in our society to enrich us, to play, to laugh and to sing. Art should not be an exclusive luxury for the rich but for everyone.
Visitors to the show can also experience Have A Go, where locals can work with Hugh (for free) in the charity’s workshop to create something creative and unique for them.
Hugh’s public work includes large sculptures for Stanstead Airport, with environmental artist Diane Maclean, for Luton Council and for Wolverhampton City.
Her private work covers sculpture, lighting, jewelry and furniture for people, homes and gardens across the country.
The new exhibit will be a rare opportunity to own original artwork by Hugh by donating to the charity. Hugh literally gives away his work.
All donations will go to Turn The Tide to help fund its future. For more, see @hughtessierart or www.turnthetidearts.co.uk
INSIDE/OUTSIDE will take place every day from Sunday October 23, 2022 to Sunday October 30, 2022, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Park at Bedwell stores or on Exchange Road.
