A thriller centered on the Free Mandela movement, Silverton Headquarters was acquired by Netflix. Set in 1980, the action thriller follows three members of the uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK), an armed wing of the African National Congress, who planned to sabotage gas depots at Watloo near Mamelodi. When police got wind of the trio’s actions, they were led on a high-speed chase, eventually trapping the fighters in a bank in Silverton. The three MK executives barricaded themselves inside, taking customers hostage and issuing a series of demands, including the release of political prisoner and future South African President Nelson Mandela.
