Safety Drew Hartlaub signs with Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent

Former Penn State safety Drew Hartlaub signed with the Carolina Panthers following the conclusion of the 2022 NFL Draft. According to a report by Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus, the undrafted free agent deal of Hartlaub includes a $6,000 signing bonus.

Hartlaub was a special teams game for the Nittany Lions. During his four-year, 43-game collegiate career, the Hanover, Pennsylvania native had 16 tackles and two fumble recoveries.

Although not the most prominent Nittany Lion eligible for this year’s draft, Hartlaub turned heads with a stellar performance at Penn State Professional Day. Hartlaub’s 36″ vertical jump and 10’9″ spread jump were certainly remarkable, but it was his blazing, albeit unofficial, 40-yard (4.22-second) swing that really got people talking. . If it was official, his run would have been good enough to tie the NFL Combine’s all-time record.

The 5’11-inch, 180-pound Hartlaub first joined the Penn State football team, but in 2021, he was placed on a full scholarship. Penn State legend Jack Ham announced the scholarship to Hartlaub and his teammates.

Hartlaub is expected to play under head coach Matt Rhule, who was once a Penn State football player. In Carolina, Hartlaub will join fellow Penn Staters Brandon Smith, who was drafted in the fourth roundd saturdayas well as Yetur Gross-Matos.
