Prime Lambs (Auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):

A good entry with 593 forward.

More lambs during the week and trade down, but still hitting a SQQ of 315.3 ppk and demand continues at a price.

Overall average 314.3 ppk.

Prime hoggs (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):

Farmers are still finding hoggets and 220 transmit day at an SQQ of 233.2 ppk.

RUTHIN Farmers’ Auction reports bull sales at 3300gns; 29 heifers at £1540; 31 steers at £1425; 28 calves at £500; seven shots at £820; 16 OTM at £1,963.50 / 255ppk; six cows and calves at £1,380 and 49 ewes and lambs at £248.

Less numerous on D-Day… but what an exchange!

A total of 76 futures with demand certainly outstripping supply.


Excellent trade at £1540 for a 25 month old Lim heifer from N Jones, Rofft and a 23 month old BB at £1535.

Some other prices: 18 month Lim £1410; 19 months Lim £1200.

Young heifers:

Char 12 months £1240.

Overall average of £1002.59.


Steers at £1425 for a 20 month old British Blue from Ian Evans, Wern Derw.

Other prices: 21 month old British Shorthorn £1,365.

Younger steers:

12 months Char £1150; 8 months Char £1100; 14 months Char £1050; 13 months BB £970.

Overall average of £1085.65.

The usual variety on offer with competitive bidding on all types and many coming home with empty trailers.

Despite a very small calf show, with only 28 attackers, four times as many could have been sold!

It was a flying trade.

As expected, suckler calves dominated the market, but dairy calves seemed to be the top sellers that day. .

A total of 2413 lambs on the day and a pleasant trade of 344ppk.

Very consistent trade across all weight ranges with 1176 mids at 345 ppk.

Only 78 heavy and overweight combined average £160/head.

1078 standard at 342ppk and 75 lights at 335ppk.

Still great prices on the best ranging from £168-£186 with an overall sale average of £134.00.
