The Sims 4 is free? – The Etownian

For fans of Electronic Arts (EA) and “The Sims” of Maxis, you’re in luck! “The Sims 4” on October 18 became free for all users on all platforms. This is a dramatic departure from its original price of $59.99 in 2014, which dropped to $39.99 two years after release.

“The Sims 4” is a life simulation game that is part of a franchise that started in 2000 with the release of the first “The Sims”. It’s a sandbox game, which means it has no real goal. Players choose the route their Sims’ lives take. From their physical characteristics and their outfits, to where they live and the relationships they form, players control everything.

Have no fear, however. EA and Maxis are always making a profit with the downloadable content (DLC) they have to enhance “The Sims 4” gaming experience. There are four different types of DLC: Expansion Packs, Game Packs, Item Packs, and Kits priced at $39.99, $19.99, $9.99, and $5 respectively. As the price goes up, so does the amount of stuff included in the DLC. For example, an expansion pack, the most expensive DLC, is the most fleshed out with new gameplay experiences, a new world (except in the case of “Seasons”), Create-A-Sim content, and items. of construction. The more affordable kits, on the other hand, usually only include around 20 items and don’t yet have a whole new world in them.

Longtime “Sims” fans will say that DLCs are necessary to keep the game fun and interesting. However, with 12 expansion packs, 12 game packs, 18 game packs, and 17 kits, it can cost a pretty penny to own all of the “Sims 4” content.

Players can download “The Sims 4” base game for free on the EA app for Windows, Origin app for Mac computers, Playstation, Xbox and Steam now.
