New laws now mean that all schools in England must review their uniform policies and take action to reduce the cost of uniform for families from September – this includes promoting school uniform options. ‘opportunity.

Families struggling with uniform costs can source high-quality used school uniforms for the upcoming term.

Gill Coupland, co-director of Social Business Brokers, said: “The demand for school uniforms over the past six months has increased dramatically and we know it’s because more families than ever are struggling to provide the essentials.

“If you have two or three children that’s between £600 and £900 a year, a huge burden on families, many of whom may already be in debt. Our uniform swap takes some of the stress out of it.”

A number of pop-up uniform swaps take place throughout the summer across Leeds, where parents can get their hands on good quality, free school uniforms.

Gill added: “Families can visit one of the many pop-up shops happening across Leeds and get a good quality uniform for their children for free – one less thing to worry about as the new school year approaches.

Gill Coupland of Social Business Brokers said the service is there to ease the burden on struggling families.

“No forms to fill out. No questions asked. No hurdles to jump through. Just easy access to a great quality used uniform. Typically at one of these events around 400-500 free uniform items are offered.”

The program was set up by Social Business Brokers, as part of their Zero Waste Leeds initiative.
